Regulations & Lacey Act

All international shipments of #caviar  must be accompanied by #CITES permits. 

A maximum amount  of 125 g of #caviar per person  can be used for non-commercial purposes.


The Lacey Act, inter alia,  empowers federal agents to seize and fish  or fish product  which they have reasonable grounds  to believe was “taken”, transported  or imported in violation  of the provisions of ESA, #CITES  or the relevant federal regulations. Violations of the Lacey Act   

- civil penalty can be as much as $10.000

- felony offenses which carry a maximum  $250.000 fine per individual

- fine of $500.000 per organization,  and/or up to 5 years imprisonment

- $100.000 fine per individual  and $200.000 per organization,  

 and/or up to 1 year imprisonment.

Sturgeon – a two hundred million years old fish  known as “THE LIVING FOSSIL”

Some species of sturgeon  can live up to 100 years or more.

The largest sturgeon ever caught  was a 28-foot long Beluga  that weighed 4,570 pounds and caught in 1736.
